HOW HABITAT WORKS

Families apply to our Homeownership Program. Families must currrenty be living in substandard housing, have a steady income, and be willing to partner with East Mississippi Habitat.

Sponsors and donors contribute financial resources which allow us to purchase the tools and materials necessary to build or rehabilitate a home

Volunteers help build homes alongside families currently in the program and with the assistance of our full-time construction supervisor. No previous experience or skill is required

Future homeowners who are accepted into the program prepare for homeownership by completing 250 hours of sweat hours including completing financial literacy classes to help manage debt and budget for the future.

New homes are sold to families through an affordable, 20, 25 or 30-year, no interest mortgage.

Paying it forward. Homeowner mortgages are then reinvested in future NEMS Habitat homes, helping even more families achieve affordable homeownership.

And every one of deserves a fair chance.

Your support gives families the opportunity to help themselves. Home ownership allows families to save more, invest in education, live in healthier environments and have more financial stability. It's the foundation for success and a better future.
